Press Forward hires veteran journalist to support membership and upcoming media summit

Press Forward is pleased to welcome Julie Sobowale as our new Communications and Program Coordinator. Sobowale will assist the growing organization to strengthen communications with members and plan our first members’ summit in fall 2024.

Sobowale is a Toronto based freelance journalist and lawyer covering technology, business and legal affairs. Originally from Halifax, she spent her career working for independent and trade publications, starting off her career as a business journalist for Progress Magazine. Her work has appeared in Alberta Views, Canadian Lawyer, Thomson Reuters’ Law Times and the Canadian Bar Association National magazine.

Sobowale worked as a membership research consultant for LION Publishers, completing research about the Canadian independent news ecosystem. She is a board member for the Canadian Association of Journalists and on the executive committee for the Canadian Association of Black Journalists.

“I’m excited to work with Press Forward to support and promote the innovative work of independent publications in Canada,” says Sobowale.

This position is made possible with support from the McConnell Foundation.
